Wedding photo sharing comparison

Guestpix vs EventDrop: which is better for wedding photos?

Both services give guests an app-free way to share their photos and videos. The meaningful differences are the price, how long the gallery stays available, and what guests can do once their uploads are there.

The quick answer

Choose based on the gallery you actually need

Choose EventDrop if you want the essential wedding photo sharing workflow at a much lower one-off price: guests scan a QR code or open a link, upload without an app or account, and you download their original files.

Choose Guestpix if a longer-lived gallery, downloads for guests and more social interaction inside the gallery matter enough to justify the higher price.

Guestpix vs EventDrop at a glance

This is a like-for-like comparison of the photo and video experience. Guestpix offers other event and personalisation features, but invitations, RSVPs, guestbooks, themes and similar extras are deliberately outside the scope of this article.

How the guest upload experience compares

EventDrop and Guestpix begin with the same sensible idea: the best upload experience is the one that does not ask every wedding guest to install another app. With either service, you can place a QR code on a table card or sign, or send a private link through a group chat. Guests open the gallery in their phone's browser and select photos or videos from their camera roll.

EventDrop lets the host add a separate passcode after a guest opens the private event link. Guests do not create an account or invent their own password. When protection is enabled, verified guests can upload to that event, and the host can choose whether the shared gallery is available for them to browse.

Guestpix also uses a private QR code or link and does not require a guest account or app. The core action is therefore familiar on both products: scan, open and upload. Your venue still needs a usable mobile data or Wi-Fi connection for uploads during the day. If coverage is poor, sharing the link afterwards lets guests contribute when they are back online.

Photo and video limits

EventDrop does not cap the number of guests, photos or videos in an event. It does apply per-file technical limits: an image can be up to 20 MiB and an individual video can be up to 2 GiB. That comfortably covers ordinary phone photos and substantial video clips while protecting the service from unexpectedly large files.

Guestpix describes its paid wedding packages as including unlimited photos and videos, subject to its fair-use policy. It also applies technical limits to individual or batch uploads. In other words, “unlimited” on either product describes how many memories guests can contribute; it does not mean that a single file or upload batch can be infinitely large.

For most weddings, the practical question is less about counting files and more about making the QR code visible. A short mention from the wedding party, cards on the tables and a reminder the next morning will usually matter more than the published upload count.

Gallery access and privacy

EventDrop galleries use a private event link with optional passcode protection. The host decides whether guests can only contribute or can also browse the shared gallery. The host can switch guest viewing off, pause uploads and remove unwanted items. Downloads remain host-only, so guests cannot save other people's original files from the gallery.

Guestpix galleries are also private rather than publicly searchable. Guests with access can browse the feed, and Guestpix offers interactive features and downloads for guests. That makes it the stronger option if you want the gallery itself to be a shared destination where everyone can revisit and save the pictures.

Neither setup should be confused with public social media, but the invite still matters. Only share a private gallery link, QR code or passcode with the people you intend to invite, and make your guests aware of how their uploads may be viewed.

Full-resolution downloads

Both products let the host download the original, full-resolution photos and videos rather than limiting the final collection to compressed gallery previews. That is important if you want to make prints, edit a video later or keep an archive outside the service.

EventDrop creates ZIP downloads for the host. When a gallery is too large for one dependable archive, it is split into smaller numbered ZIP parts so each part can be downloaded independently. Guestpix generates a complete-gallery ZIP containing the original files. Its gallery also lets guests download individual content, whereas EventDrop deliberately reserves downloads for the host.

Whichever service you choose, move the finished collection into storage you control. An event gallery is a convenient collection point, not a substitute for keeping your own backup.

The biggest difference is retention

EventDrop is intentionally temporary. Guests can upload and the host can download until 30 days after the event date. After that deadline, the photo and video files are permanently deleted. This creates a clear window for collecting everything and moving it into your own photo library or cloud storage.

Guestpix Classic currently provides a three-month upload window and hosts the gallery for twelve months from the event date. That is a meaningful advantage if you expect guests to contribute slowly or want the live gallery to remain part of the wedding experience for most of the following year.

The shorter EventDrop window is not better for everyone. It works well when you want a focused collection tool and are happy to download promptly. If keeping an online guest gallery available for longer is central to your plans, Guestpix is the more suitable choice.

Guestpix pricing in the UK compared with EventDrop

EventDrop has one package at £7.99 per event. It includes unlimited guest, photo and video counts, the QR code and printable QR Code Card, optional guest browsing, passcode protection and full-resolution host downloads. There is no subscription or later feature tier to select.

Guestpix Classic was listed at £39 as a one-time payment when this comparison was reviewed. For that higher price, its photo and video experience includes the much longer hosting period, downloads for guests and a more interactive shared gallery. Those are real additions, not merely a different label on the same service.

If your priority is getting the original photos off your guests' phones and safely onto yours, EventDrop covers that essential workflow for a fraction of the price. If the online gallery is itself part of what you are buying, Guestpix gives you more time and more things for guests to do inside it.

Which wedding photo sharing service should you choose?

Choose EventDrop if:

  • You want a simple, inexpensive Guestpix alternative for collecting photos and videos.
  • You are comfortable downloading everything within 30 days of the wedding.
  • You want guests to upload without an app or account.
  • You prefer original-file downloads to stay with the host.

Choose Guestpix if:

  • You want the hosted gallery to remain available for twelve months.
  • You want guests to download photos and videos themselves.
  • You value a more interactive gallery experience.
  • The longer upload window is worth the additional cost to you.

Our verdict

For a UK couple primarily looking for QR code wedding photos and videos, EventDrop is the stronger value. It keeps the guest experience app-free, preserves the original files and gives the host control over viewing and downloads without charging for a longer-lived social gallery they may not need.

Guestpix remains the better fit when longer hosting, guest downloads and interaction are requirements rather than optional extras. The right answer is not simply the product with the longest feature list; it is the one whose price matches how you intend to use the gallery after the wedding.
